How to avoid the pitfalls of branding in evangelism

Tyler Wigg-Stevenson in a recent article in Christianity Today has made some penetrating observations in regards to the trend to "market" Jesus and the Gospel in our Western society. We all need to be aware that our way of presentation DOES influence how its content is perceived as well. I think the article does an excellent job analyzing the dilemmas we face although it doesn't go very deeply into possible solutions.

It has always bothered me when gospel presentations are hardly distinguishable from other kinds of sales pitches. And maybe the superficiality of faith in so many of our churches is a long-term result of a reduction of the Christian message to an answer of our felt needs rather than an emphasis on the Lordship of Jesus Christ, the need to deny and die to ourselves, and to follow Jesus no matter what the cost.

I recommend the article and would love to hear some of your reactions as well.
